Tyros 332 BC
Re: Tyros 332 BC
Dein "Archaic Greek Merchant Ship" hast du sehr schön fotografiert.

Re: Tyros 332 BC
Thanks for your beautifull words dear Stenfalk, Dirk and Chris.
this summer I worked very hard on the modelkit of the Merchant Galley:
The mast has been reinforced with extra care.
In my last models the mast was still too flexible because the 1mm steel rod bent during the rigging.
Now I used 3mm steel rod of which the tip has been narrowed to 1mm with a grinding tool.
Additionally, this typical 6th century BC Greek mast needed a metal reinforced loop to hold the lifts of the sail.
The first six attempts to fill the mould with resin were not succesfull.
The mould is very big and my resins potlife is shorter than the time it needs to infiltrate all canals.
I cut more and more canals until the farest (and most upper) parts of the mould were filled with resin.

Thank you Dirk and Stenfalk for your nice words.
Beside the rowed version with reefed sail, I made a sailing version with full sail of the Merchant Galley:

Set 3 of the Ancient Greek Sailors is painted for presentation and available.
This set was disigned for crewing the Gyptis boat with sitting sailors. Punting men and climbing men were added to make a full set.
