Thank you for the feedback, dear Chris, Michel, Dirk, Entrauner and Egbert.
Set 3 for my Dutch Revolt 1568 series is almost ready.
The theme of this set is navigation and contains 12 officers and assistants.
This first man is holding an Astrolabium, a very old instrument used for navigation. By making use of the stars, a sailor could find his position on the seamap with it. Its a Greek invention of the 4th century and was in use upto 1600 when it was replaced by the more sophisticated sextant.

Immer wieder beeindruckend!

My dear Mr Crynns .
You really have let yourself down by not inscribing the numerals on the instrument!
Seriously, amazing work as always.
By the way, you never did answer my question as to gardening etc.
Best wishes,
Chris

Thank you Wolle, Stenfalk and Chris.
For the astrolabium I wanted to try out working in soft metal. In the macro shot the metal looks pretty rough because of the sanding with coarse grain. Now I wonder how the same object would look like when I make it out of polystyrene plastic.

The Dutch School of Nautica, late 16th century:
The Hour Glass is used as a stopwatch for measuring speed.
It is also used as a clock that has to be turned exactly when its finished. Then every turn of the hour glass has to be marked on an administrationboard so an officer can count the turns and knows how much time has passed. It is used by changing the crew after 4 or 6 hours of work.
Notice the connection between the word 'watch' for a clock and 'watch' for changing the crew on duty.
The costume is of a Dutch sailor from 1585: It was the brand new fashion by then.
My interpretation of the hour glass stopwatch man in this Dutch costume:
