Ziegen für den Orient

Die hier im Forum und auch auf der Dioramica bereits vorgestellte "Urmutter" meiner Shami oder Damaskusziege hat ihre Begleiter bekommen. Damit ist jetzt eine kleine 6-köpfige Gruppe vorbereitet, die nach der Produktion auch als 6-er Set an den Start gehen soll. Die Ziegen sind für den gesamten Bereich des südlichen und östlichen Mittelmeerraumes bis hinauf nach Kleinasien und über den arabischen Raum über Syrien, Jordanien, Afghanistan, die früheren südlichen Sowietrepubliken, den Irak, Iran und Pakistan bis hin nach West- und Nordwestindien verwendbar - und dies in Dioramen sämtlicher Epochen ab ca. 6.-5. Jahrtausend BC bis heute.

Bisher ist meinerseits allerdings noch kein konkreter Produktionstermin geplant. Falls Interesse besteht erinnere ich aber gern an meinen Vorbestellservice, mit dem man als "Habenwollender" (bei Erreichen einer bestimmten Menge an Bestellungen) eine Produktion ggf. etwas nach vorn verlagern kann.

Last year, when I was visiting Kostis Ornerakis on Kreta, I went to the Archaeological museum of Heraklion.

And look what I found there for you!

Das sind Ziegen von den Orient, nichtwahr?

It must be the oldest sculpting of a complete herd of goats, as far as I know of.
Its from the middle Minoan Period, about 1800 BC, so its already 3800 years old.
Only part of the flock has been left, including a herdsman.
The bowl probably served a spiritual purpose.

I am glad that you not only gain valuable knowledge for yourself during your travels, but also think about broadening my horizons. And indeed, it is of utmost interest to me to look at such artifacts. The high cultures of that time always surprise me with regard to their achievements in science and technology. And your model building helps me to visualize my acquired knowledge. This is exciting.

Mehr Ziegen für den Orient!

Well I have to admit I did not take this picture especially for you, because I did not know you at all when I took it twelve years ago in the British Museum. Its from one of the many stone-reliefs of the Assyrian Palaces from the 9th to 7th centuries BC. Its often depicting cattle that was confiscated in the conquered terrytories like Syria, Palestina and Phoenicia. Notice the ratio between goat and sheep numbers.

I finally have painted two of your Shami goats, two similar animal poses.

In this thread it says you made 6 shami goat in all.
I remember you only had one of them moulded and cast.
Is that right or are there more of them available?

Are you coming to Dioramica? I hope so. But you are not on Wolfgangs list of participators if I understood it right.
