The logline with knots and markers was, in combination with a wooden log chip and the hour glass a tool to measure speed at full sea.
the cross staff or Jakobsstab was a tool to determine ones position at full see. It comes with one, two or three cross bars. Once you recognize the shape of Jacobs Staffs, you will see them everywhere in nautical illustrations and allegorical sailor images:

The navigators have received their navigation instruments:
From left to right: compass, quadrant, leadline, astrolabium, jacobsstaff, logchip, logline, hourglass.
How to throw the lead on the depth-measure line?
I made many variations, the second is best and defenite:
The logchip is a wooden triangle with pieces of lead at the bottom (on top in this position). With three cords its connected to the knotted logline:
I am curious if I can cast these men with instruments in one single piece.
